The Annie Halenbake Ross Library, 232 W. Main St., will host an exhibit, reading and book signing for Lock Haven University faculty member and author, Marjorie Maddox (Hafer), and photographer Dr. Karen Elias at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19.

Maddox and Elias will discuss their collaboration of "Heart Speaks, Is Spoken For," followed by a question and answer session. Maddox also will read from her other new book, "Begin with a Question" (2022) and have available for sale, "Inside Out: Poems on Writing and Reading Poems with Insider Exercises" (2020) and the children's book "I'm Feeling Blue, Too!"

In "Heart Speaks, Is Spoken For," a cracked, heart-shaped stone inspired Maddox and Elias to collaborate in creating nuanced portrayals of love, obsession, grief, joy, loneliness, anger, protest and hope. Looking backward on memories and forward to our responsibility for the Earth, their individual visions combine to create an expansive understanding of the world.

Maddox, professor of English at LHU, has published 13 collections of poetry, a short story collection and four children's books.

Elias taught college English for 40 years and is now an artist/activist, using photography and drama to record the fragility of the natural world and raise awareness about climate change.
